Strategic Planning Results in Fast, Healthy Growth
“Over the last ten years, Mike has consulted for Simpson Gumpertz and Heger (SGH) on a variety of high-level initiatives including strategic planning, leadership development, geographic expansion, and generational transition. He is highly respected at SGH for his wisdom, collaborative leadership style, integrity, and ability to guide us to successful outcomes. In his time with SGH Mike has helped us more than double in size.”
– Glenn R. Bell, Chief Executive Officer SGH
Creative Facilitation Produces Clear Direction Fast
“We engaged Mike to help us facilitate a significant reorganization of our customer service area including a management team transition, a change in our business model. He helped us decide and agree upon the new direction for customer service (we’ve been struggling for years) as a management team. He also helped get everyone bought-in and engaged in the new direction.
“He used an accelerated but highly effective planning approach along with a very useful role clarification process. He mixed in a lot of individual and team development as well. We got a tailored up-front plan with up-front pricing. The facilitation was quick, efficient, and effective.”
– Chip Jakins, CEO Carroll EMC (Energy /Utility)
Leadership Program Designed, Planned and Launched
“Mike served as a consultant to assist me with the development of an executive level faculty/staff leadership program at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 2011 and 2012. In the program Mike helped us build, each participant’s development plan is based on assessments of their current leadership competencies, and their development opportunities will be individually chosen. Mike played a critical role in designing, planning and launching the program. He used his experience to provide to our program the strategy and the template used to implement, what I believe, will be one of the most valuable leadership programs UAB has offered our employees’ development. I am pleased to recommend Mike to any organization looking for a forward thinking strategist, consultant and coach.”
– Pamela Gray Burks, EdD, Executive Director, Human Resources, The University of Alabama at Birmingham
Perfect-fit Career Strategy with Full-Life Fluidity
“I have used a personal coach before. My prior experience was mainly focused around production issues, or execution, rather than strategy. I hired Mike so that I could understand my career and where I wanted to go from a strategic standpoint and to understand how to mesh my career into my life to create a fluidity of family, work and play.
“We had a conversation at the outset in which I clearly told him what I wanted out of our strategic planning sessions. Mike told me that he could deliver the results that I wanted – and he did. The highlight of my experience was coming to better understand myself and understanding how to apply that knowledge to my career to achieve a more perfect fit.”
– John Murphy McMillan, III, Attorney at Law, Burr & Forman LLP
Life/Leadership Plan Balances Priorities
“I have always held my faith, family, community and career in high and focused priority, but as my responsibilities have grown in each area, my Life/Leadership Plan is making a difference in the way that I approach decisions. It is hard for me to imagine how busy leaders can make sound decisions in their organizations without such a plan for organizing life’s and work’s priorities in balance with one another.
“I recommend this process to anyone who is in a position of leadership, not only for personal improvement, but also to boost leadership among subordinates and associates. The end result will be that each participant will work and live better.
“Leadership development is nothing new. But leadership development done in a context of life balance is truly exciting. With your process and the On The Same Page Planner one can truly lead a better life. I’m sure of it.”
– George Purnell, VP & Partner Jubilations Cheesecakes, Inc.
Superior, Well-Designed Planning Process
“Your Leadership & Life Plan was far superior to other planning processes I have encountered. Its design was well thought out to give the person the opportunity to reach for those meaningful events in life while developing components of the structure of the plan simultaneously. The plan outline flowed in such a way to produce your life plan as a natural product of the exercise. It was truly worthwhile to see the building blocks of this On The Same Page life plan materialize.”
– Carl Candullo Jr., VP & CIO, Monroe Regional Medical Center Ocala, FL
Full-Effect Impact on Personal and Professional Life
“Having been in human resources for over 20 years, I have had lots of experience with many leadership development initiatives. Some have had partial effect for a long period of time, some have had a total effect for a short period of time, but none have had the impact that Mike Tate’s Leadership & Life Plan have had on my personal and professional life.
“The key, I believe, is that it’s not Mike’s plan for your life – but it is your plan. One that does require thought and initiative to develop, but then is expressed in a one page balanced approach to personal and professional development planning.
“I wasn’t interested in putting together a textbook on my life and dreams, but I did want to focus my life so that I would be able to look back with satisfaction rather than regret. What I have accomplished so far – a blue slope, a ‘wow’ from my boss, an accolade from a difficult board member, a closer relationship with my mother, new skills and hidden talents.”
– Katherine Burns, Human Resources Director, High Point Regional, NC
Story Board Focuses, Compresses Planning
“Thanks again for your help with our department retreat on 5/28. Just a few observations from the staff and me – I was surprised at the set-up when I first arrived and how you converted our phone conversations and documents into a story board that kept us really focused for the entire day. The big ‘take away’ was that we are all valued for our contribution to the department and organization, but may be more productive/efficient if our mission is clearer as well as our internal communication and cooperation.
“The staff was impressed with the offsite and what we achieved in those few hours and are eager to do another 1/2 day once our new employee is oriented and ready to participate in 3 months or so. Your style was helpful in that you were very informative and kept us on task, while empowering all of us to contribute. You promised a one-page departmental 100-day work plan, and you gave us one on the Tuesday following Memorial Day weekend! On a personal note, I appreciate your coaching and guiding as we prepared for the offsite.
While we are on a long journey, the retreat (and preparation) was a life-changing experience for me and for the staff as well.
